Ad Astra

Back from Ad Astra. Report forthcoming when I have six solid minutes in a row in a single day to formulate a thought. In general, it was great - much different, but still great.

Off to Ad Astra in a few minutes. Two panels on Saturday and two book launches on Sunday. Big weekend!

Hope to see you there!

Drive-by Update

In full-blown Ad Astra not-quite-panic now, with two panels on Saturday (Cribbing from History at 11:00 and Too Many Characters at 3:00 (lord knows AGES qualifies me for the first and Squirrelman for the second) and two book launches on Sunday - AGES OF WONDER at 11:00 and TRUTHSEEKERS 2: BIRTHRIGHT at noon (at least they're in the same room!).

So now I'm in designing promotional materials mode, and will be for the next two weeks. (Also a mild case of obsessing about the delivery of the TS2 books, but it's all good, it's all good, I'm okay, it'll be fine...)

Right! Back to work.

Feb. 5th, 2009

So Princess Smith and the Clockwork Knight has gone out to an agent. Updates as events warrant.

Truthseekers 2 being at the editor leaves me with a curious void in my life. I'd grown accustomed to all-Ashley, all the time.

Once the show is over (tickets still available! get them while there's still good seats!) I'm going to be all-Ad-Astra, all the time - getting ready for the launch, signing pre-ordered copies of Truthseekers 2, printing out promotional stuff, PLUS the Ages of Wonder launch. Both are going to be the same day, Sunday March 29th.

And then... April. I think I will treat myself to writing that Action-Cityverse not-a-Squirrelman-sequel that's been kicking around in my head.

Ad Astra Schedule

For those of you who may have been wondering, here's my panel schedule for Ad Astra next week:

Fri 8:00 PM Misspelled Game Intro (My story is being launched on Sunday!)

Fri 10:00 PM Goals of Fanfic Writers (because, you know, it's out there - ignoring it isn't going to make fanfic go away)

Sat 1:00 PM Authors who Edit (seeing as I've done both!)

Sat 2:00 PM Buffy Season Eight (somehow I'm moderating this one! I should go pick up the latest issue)

Sat 4:00 PM Neopaganism: Fact vs. Fiction (Sorry Jim! Looks like I have to miss the Goblin War launch!)

Sun 1:00 PM Misspelled Launch (AAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!! *excited Kermit-like arm-flailing and running-about behaviour!*)

Travellin' Man

I'm looking at next year's schedule, in terms of travel plans. It's starting to look like I'm heading to California at least twice (maybe three times) - once for the twins' graduation, once for Cindy's wedding, and hopefully, once for the Nerd Prom, Geekapalooza itself, San Diego Comic Con.

But then there's the (relatively) local cons: Ad Astra in March, which I have to (willingly, gleefully even) attend because it's the launch of my short story, "The Mysterious Case of Spell Zero"; Polaris in July... World Fantasy Con in Calgary in November conflicts with Cindy's wedding, which I'm not going to miss. It's unlikely that I'll do Anime North next year, despite the good time I had this year. It's a good con, though... I dunno. It all depends on my finances, ultimately.

Kaleidoscope next year conflicts with my 20-year high school reunion, but I'm not missing KG again if I can absolutely help it. I'll go up for the few days leading up to the reunion on Saturday, drive home for the reunion (missing the Bardic, alas), drive back to KG afterwards. AND San Diego Comic Con is the weekend before KG... I'd have to get off the plane and drive right to the campsite, LOL!

Of course, in order to go to all these conventions and festivals and events, I'll need fifteen days of vacation at least. And the money to pay for them all.

Selling a novel would take care of the money...

Did I forget to mention that all this in the midst of having convinced myself that next year I absolutely, without fail, will go camping at least once a month come summer? LOL...

Ad Astra 2007 - Notes

FINALLY getting around to transcribing my Ad-Astra notesCollapse )

Mar. 4th, 2007

Well I'm back

Back from Ad Astra. Much fun, much work, much tired. Very productive. Slightly surreal experience of having longtime pros in the field sorta kinda sidelong asking whether there was room in MY anthology... and having Julie pimp me as her co-editor. Whack, yo.

Eight hours there (thanks, storm of the year) but only five hours back.

Great is my fatigue.

Oh yeah, the biggest news is that MISSPELLED will (most likely, and subject to change) be launched at next year's Ad Astra. So!

Mar. 1st, 2007

Right! Off to the Ad Astra Convention tomorrow. A few positive thoughts concerning our travelling in a frickin' blizzard will be appreciated.

Back Sunday.

Jan. 27th, 2007

So I'm going to Ad Astra this March with the Ancient and Nameless Mackayhotep and they've got a panel on serials.

I want to actually lead this panel, or be one of the facilitators, or whatever the verb for panels is.

If they say yes, I'll be on the panel with Robert J. Sawyer. O.o

I should maybe read some of his books - any recommendations?
